Information for and about you, Daddies!

Back in the day, expectant fathers might have paced the hospital halls, waiting for the doctor or nurse to come inform him that he had a son or daughter and then perhaps, have pulled a cigar out of his jacket pocket as he was congratulated by other anxiously waiting fathers. Not anymore!

Today, many dads want to be actively involved in the birth experience- to participate in birth preparation classes and hospital tours, to help ease his partner's worries and pains. He wants to be there at the moment that his child enters the world.

Though many fathers-to-be desire an active role in the birth of his child, fathers are often worried about handling the responsibility of supporting momma through such an important and often unfamiliar and unpredictable event. They might worry that they are not up to the job. They may feel nervous and scared about seeing their partner in pain. These are all normal feelings and a doula can help you communicate and overcome your worries.

Some daddies-to-be worry that a doula is going to replace him as labor-coach. This is not so. A doula can help dad help his partner. Helping your partner through labor is a big responsibility and a doula can help you feel more confident about actively fulfilling your role as labor-coach.
